Asim Roy
Asim Roy is the primary developer of the On Demand Data Mining System. He is a Professor of
Information Systems at Arizona State University. He received his M.S. in Operations
Research from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and Ph.D. in Operations
Research from University of Texas at Austin. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Stanford
University, visiting the PDP group of David Rumelhart in the early 90s. He was the
Letters Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and has served on the organizing
committees of many scientific conferences.
Asim's research interests are in neural networks, machine learning, data mining,
pattern recognition, prediction and forecasting and intelligent systems. His research
has been published in Neural Networks, Neural Computation, Naval Research Logistics,
The ORSA Journal on Computing, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions
on Fuzzy Systems and other journals. He has extensive experience in developing pioneering
software systems. In the early eighties, he designed and developed the software
system IFPS/OPTIMUM that pioneered the idea of incorporating optimization tools
in financial and planning languages for managerial use. It has been used by hundreds
of corporations worldwide for financial, corporate and production planning.
Asim has recently published a new theory for brain-like learning and computing.
This new theory challenges the classical ideas that have dominated the field of
brain-like computing for the last 50 years. His work has been described as pioneering
by distinguished scholars in the field. He has been invited for plenary talks and
for tutorials, workshops and short courses on his new learning theory and methods
at many national and international conferences.
Patrick D. Mackin
Patrick D. Mackin created the interface that allows Salesforce.com users access
to the On Demand Data Mining System. He is an Associate Professor in the College of Business and Technology
at Black Hills State University. He received his B.A. in Accounting and M.S. in
Mathematics/Operations Research from the University of Montana, Missoula, Montana
and Ph.D. in Management Science from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona.
His primary areas of teaching include Production and Operations Management, Statistics,
Management Information Systems, Database Management, Simulation and Quantitative
Controls. He has taught at the University of South Dakota, Arizona State University
and the University of Montana. He received teaching excellence awards from the University
of Montana and Arizona State University.
His research interests include search and information retrieval, forecasting and
nonlinear multiple objective optimization. His work has been published in IIE Transactions,
and the Information Systems Education Journal.
In addition to his academic experience, he has been a Residential Building Contractor,
Systems Administrator and is the President of Professional Consultants, Inc. a consulting
business specializing in Accounting Information Systems Consulting, Programming
and Software Development. He has also worked at Intel Corporation and as contract
programmer for Cougar Mountain Software.
